1) FILM / TELEVISION
SAMSARA - (Documentary, 2011)
“Filmed over nearly five years in 25 countries on five continents, and shot on 70mm film, experience the varied worlds of sacred grounds, disaster zones, industrial complexes, and natural wonders.”
“While Samsara travels the globe from Tibetan monks, to African tribesman, to Chinese factory workers, to Los Angeles’ tangled web of freeways, to the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina, and more, it maintains the themes of life and death, permanence and impermanence and the flow and rhythm of our world’s energy throughout.” - Katie Walsh, Indiewire
Director and cinematographer Ron Fricke captures some of the most stunning images to ever be filmed. Samsara is his follow up to Baraka, a similar music and picture combination documentary that highlights many untraveled, and unseen places around the globe. The faces, and the cultures that Samsara represents almost feels like a non verbal meeting of strangers during a quiet meditation. I will watch these two films for the rest of my life, repeatedly, and allow them to take over my state of mind and being.

2) MUSIC / PODCASTS
BROKEN RECORD WITH RICK RUBEN, MALCOLM GLADWELL, BRUCE HEADLAM, and JUSTIN RICHMOND - (Podcast, Pushkin Industries)
For any music lover out there, this podcast is for you. Also, do you know anyone that doesn’t love music? Weird.
The Broken Record podcast sits down with musicians in a long form conversation, discussing the inner workings on much of their craft. Stories are shared, and insights are surely gained. The interviewer is split up between four people (titled above). I personally love listening to legendary producer Rick Ruben’s interviews, as he speaks with artists ranging from Anthony Kiedis and Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, to Henry Rollins and so many more.
This podcast is definitely one to put on the list:
3) ART
SALVADOR DALI’S ‘THE PERSISTENCE OF MEMORY’: GREAT ART EXPLAINED - (Youtube)
4) BOOKS / WRITING
TUPAC SHAKUR - (American Rapper)
CHANGES (Verse), 1998
…
I see no changes, all I see is racist faces
Misplaced hate makes disgrace to races
We under, I wonder what it takes to make this
One better place, let's erase the wasted
Take the evil out the people, they'll be actin' right
'Cause both black and white are smokin' crack tonight
And the only time we chill is when we kill each other (Kill each other)
It takes skill to be real, time to heal each other
And although it seems heaven-sent
We ain't ready to see a black president, uh (Oh-ooh)
It ain't a secret, don't conceal the fact
The penitentiary's packed and it's filled with blacks
But some things will never change (Never Change)
Try to show another way, but you stayin' in the dope game (Ooh)
Now tell me, what's a mother to do?
Bein' real don't appeal to the brother in you (Yeah)
You gotta operate the easy way
"I made a G today, " but you made it in a sleazy way
Sellin' crack to the kids (Oh-oh), "I gotta get paid" (Oh)
Well hey, well that's the way it is…

5) PHOTOGRAPHY
ELLEN VON UNWERTH - (German Photographer)
“There are so many sides to women. That’s why some of my best shots come when the girls think the camera has stopped rolling, you’re seeing something different to what they give you when they know they’re being watched, a vulnerability”
– Ellen von Unwerth
“Ellen von Unwerth is a German photographer and director. She worked as a fashion model for ten years before becoming a photographer, and now makes fashion, editorial, and advertising photographs.” - Wikipedia
