BLOOD PULLS A GUN by Ben Briand - (VIMEO - Short Film)
*(MATURE CONTENT)*
I remember coming across Ben Briand’s short film Blood Pulls A Gun years ago. I was immediately enveloped by his filmmaking style; a subtle, quiet appreciation for the little moments in life. The acting was grounded, and truthful, especially the kinetic scenes between Odessa Young and Josh McConville. And the cinematography by Jeremy Rouse will surely solidify him a career in motion pictures. Briand’s other short films such as Apricot, and Armour show why he is becoming one of Australia’s most talented directors. According to his IMDB page, Briand will be directing an upcoming feature film with Alexander Skarsgard and Cara Delevingne.
“Blood” does a modern take on the Lolita storyform style, and reminds me just how impressionable a short film can be.
2) MUSIC / PODCASTS
THE ALWAYS SUNNY PODCAST - (Spotify, Apple Podcasts, etc)
If you are a fan of the show It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, and you have yet to listen to this podcast, then you are doing yourself a disservice. Rob, Charlie, and Glenn riff about each episode they have created, chronologically, usually veering wildly off course in a matter of minutes, or even seconds.
These guys make me envious of what they have built together, and their stories to couple the shows details constantly have me laughing out loud.

HACKING DARWIN - GENETIC ENGINEERING and the FUTURE of HUMANITY By JAMIE METZL
PURCHASE HERE: Hacking Darwin
Full disclosure: I have yet to read this book, but it is sitting on my bookshelf waiting it’s turn to be read very soon. The idea of genetically engineering the human race and what that means for our future is absolutely fascinating to me. And I cannot wait to dive into this read.
Book Description: “At the dawn of the genetics revolution, our DNA is becoming as readable, writable, and hackable as our information technology. But as humanity starts retooling our own genetic code, the choices we make today will be the difference between realizing breathtaking advances in human well-being and descending into a dangerous and potentially deadly genetic arms race.
Enter the laboratories where scientists are turning science fiction into reality. Look towards a future where our deepest beliefs, morals, religions, and politics are challenged like never before and the very essence of what it means to be human is at play. When we can engineer our future children, massively extend our lifespans, build life from scratch, and recreate the plant and animal world, should we?”
5) PHOTOGRAPHY
ALESSANDRA N. SCOPPETTA - (Italian Photographer)
I discovered Alessandra’s work on Instagram, and it’s becoming blatantly evident how much talent there is out there. I am constantly impressed by the art that we are all creating, and striving for. Alessandra Scoppetta’s photography is surely included in that sentiment.
Here are a few examples of her work, but it is worth the time to visit her Instagram page, to see the full scope of her talents.
"Photography for me is therapy, a way to bring out everything that I have inside: my world, my way of seeing and living see and live the reality that surrounds me, an abstract vision, never really clear, but for me it is real and concrete."
