1) FILM / TELEVISION
LICORICE PIZZA - (PAUL THOMAS ANDERSON)
PLOT - “The story of Alana Kane and Gary Valentine growing up, running around and going through the treacherous navigation of first love in the San Fernando Valley, 1973.” - IMDB
There is no secret that I am a huge P.T. Anderson fan. His films are pure masterclasses in the craft of filmmaking. With Licorice Pizza, Anderson conducts a style that is completely contrary to a film like There Will Be Blood. It walks a tightrope of nostalgia and subtle conflict that ties a steady heartbeat to its pacing. The film is ultimately held up with very solid performances across the board from a couple new faces (Alana Haim from the band Haim, and Cooper Hoffman, the son of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman). The classic veterans round out the players lineup with the likes of Bradley Cooper, Sean Penn, Tom Waits, and the not-so-veteran but extremely talented actor/filmmaker in Benny Safdie.
Here is the trailer for Licorice Pizza:

2) MUSIC / PODCASTS
LEX FRIDMAN PODCAST
The Reservoir Dogs look is not dead. The man who notoriously dons the black suit, white shirt, black tie look consistently, Lex Fridman, is a self described research scientist at MIT, and podcast host. However he is much more than that. He is a curious, thoughtful, empathetic voice in today’s hostile, internet yelling world. Born in Moscow, Lex moved to the United States and has carved out a living for himself by using his intellect on the topics of artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, and machine learning.
His conversations with guests on his podcasts are often times extremely in depth and insightful. And you might just learn a little something. Lex describes his podcast as:
“Conversations about science, technology, history, philosophy and the nature of intelligence, consciousness, love, and power.”

4) BOOKS / WRITING
Selection from MACBETH - (William Shakespeare)
ACT III, SCENE 2
…
LADY MACBETH
Come on;
Gentle my lord, sleek o'er your rugged looks;
Be bright and jovial among your guests to-night.
MACBETH
So shall I, love; and so, I pray, be you:
Let your remembrance apply to Banquo;
Present him eminence, both with eye and tongue:
Unsafe the while, that we
Must lave our honours in these flattering streams,
And make our faces vizards to our hearts,
Disguising what they are.
LADY MACBETH
You must leave this.
MACBETH
O, full of scorpions is my mind, dear wife!
Thou know'st that Banquo, and his Fleance, lives.
LADY MACBETH
But in them nature's copy's not eterne.
MACBETH
There's comfort yet; they are assailable;
Then be thou jocund: ere the bat hath flown
His cloister'd flight, ere to black Hecate's summons
The shard-borne beetle with his drowsy hums
Hath rung night's yawning peal, there shall be done
A deed of dreadful note.
LADY MACBETH
What's to be done?
MACBETH
Be innocent of the knowledge, dearest chuck,
Till thou applaud the deed. Come, seeling night,
Scarf up the tender eye of pitiful day;
And with thy bloody and invisible hand
Cancel and tear to pieces that great bond
Which keeps me pale! Light thickens; and the crow
Makes wing to the rooky wood:
Good things of day begin to droop and drowse;
While night's black agents to their preys do rouse.
Thou marvell'st at my words: but hold thee still;
Things bad begun make strong themselves by ill.
So, prithee, go with me.Exeunt
