1) FILM / TELEVISION
THE TRAGEDY OF MACBETH - (JOEL COEN, Apple TV+)
Joel Coen breaks off from his brother Ethan, to direct this Shakespeare classic, produced by A24.
PLOT: A Scottish lord becomes convinced by a trio of witches that he will become the next King of Scotland. His ambitious wife will do anything to support him in his plans of seizing power.
With a 4:3 ratio and black and white finish, Coen creates a minimal set, allowing his powerhouse cast to focus solely on character and story. Led by Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand playing Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, the remaining acting core lifts this film up to a place I questioned it could achieve. A stunning performance by Kathryn Hunter as “Witches / Old Man” is worth the visit all by itself.

For a little bit of fun, Ethan Coen had a few words to say about his brother in this honest review:

2) MUSIC / PODCASTS
CAAMP - (American Folk)
According to Amadeus Magazine’s online article on the band, it is said the band’s oddly spelled name is an acronym… “An acronym that not a lot of people know, stands for Consuming abnormal amounts of Makers and PBR.”
Originally from Upper Arlington, a suburb of Columbus, Ohio, (lead vocalist and guitarist) Taylor Meier along with childhood friend, Evan Westfall (harmony, banjo, and electric guitar) met the third part of this trio, Matt Vinson (Bass), in Athens, Ohio sometime around 2015 to form the jammy folk band.
Having the pleasure myself of seeing these guys play live several times around Columbus, I can tell you that they are headed for stardom, and I believe if the pandemic of 2020 did not happen, then this trio would already be on the national radar. Let’s just say The Lumineers have invited Caamp to open for them during their 2022 domestic tour beginning in May.

THOMAS SHUTTE - (German Contemporary Artist)
“Thomas Schütte is a contemporary German artist. Working across media in print, watercolor, and installation, he is best known for his sculptures—particularly his figures—which range from miniatures to large-scale public works. Often unsettling or uncomfortable, his sculptures feature twisted expressions and a malevolent presence, exploring the artist’s role in contemporary society.” - Artnet
